The Nepohualtzitzin Ethnomathematics Club is an afterschool program that utilizes an instrument used for calculation developed by ancient Mesoamericans called Nepohualtzitzin. Due to the use of the concrete instrument, students are able to see and manipulate counters on the instrument. They are able to understand place value facilitating the learning of mathematic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division making the understanding of concepts such as solving for square roots understandable by young learners.
